Maintaining Drives and Guides
A door can still complete every cycle while its guides or transmission begin to wear. Scheduled maintenance on an automatic sliding cold room door should examine how the drive, rollers and guides work together, before a mechanical problem interrupts loading.
Check the Complete Assembly
The motor moves the leaf through a belt, chain or another transmission arrangement. Rollers and guides support and direct that movement. Service should assess these components together, including their mountings and connections to the leaf.
A competent technician should follow the manufacturer’s procedure for checking mechanical travel. Required isolation must account for backup supplies and prevent unexpected movement. Covers and drive components should not be accessed during normal operation.
Use the Correct Tension and Lubrication
Belt and chain drives require different maintenance methods. Check tension against the installed operator’s instructions. A transmission that looks tight is not necessarily adjusted correctly, and excessive tightening can introduce further problems.
Apply lubricant only to the specified points, using the stated product or an approved equivalent. A lubricant suitable for a chain may be unsuitable for a belt, roller or running surface elsewhere on the door. Each component needs its own maintenance instructions.
On bi-parting doors, service should include both leaves’ coordinated movement and final meeting position. Follow the system instructions when making adjustments, since a change to one leaf can affect the complete opening.
Where a cycle counter is available, record its reading alongside the service date. This helps the service provider compare wear with actual use while following the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule.
After mechanical work, restore guards and complete the required operating and safety checks. Record any unresolved defect and the service provider’s decision on whether the door can return to operation. Defects affecting safe operation must be corrected before release.
