When Automatic Doors Stop Responding
When Automatic Doors Stop Responding
The wall button works, but the handheld remote does not. That is a different fault report from a door that ignores every opening command. When an automatic sliding cold room door stops responding, a clear description of what still works can help the service team narrow its investigation.
Describe the Response
Before changing anything, note the door position, selected operating mode and any displayed message. If the controller shows a code, photograph it from a safe position and include the equipment identification. Codes must be interpreted using the correct controller documentation.
| Observation | Useful detail for service |
|---|---|
| One control produces no response | Identify the control and report whether another approved control has already operated the door normally. |
| No controls produce a response | Note the operating mode and whether the display or indicators appear powered. An illuminated display does not confirm that the drive is ready. |
| Movement begins, then stops | Describe where it stops and any unusual sound. Do not keep issuing commands against resistance. |
| The problem is intermittent | Note whether it follows cleaning, a shift change or a particular control being used. These are clues, not proof of cause. |
Check the Intended Operating State
An authorised operator can check the user controls described in the door instructions. A closed or restricted-entry mode may intentionally prevent some opening commands. Confirm why that mode was selected before changing it.
If a stop device is engaged, establish why it was used. Releasing it without resolving the reason can restart a hazardous situation. Leave electrical enclosure access and internal fault finding to qualified personnel.
Avoid repeated resets. Reset the system only when its instructions allow it and the conditions for safe restart have been met. Preserve the fault information first, and keep the door’s movement area clear because restart behaviour depends on the system.
If access is unavailable, follow the site’s alternative access or emergency procedure. Manual release methods vary between operators, so do not force the leaf or improvise a drive disconnection. Give the technician the observations above, including any action already taken.
