Cold Room Evaporators
Cold room evaporators absorb heat from the refrigerated space and circulate cooled air around stored products. Refrigerant evaporates inside the coil as fans move room air across its surface, allowing the refrigeration system to remove heat from the room.
Frigovetta Refrigeration System manufactures cold room evaporators for chilled and frozen storage applications. Also known as unit coolers, these components are selected according to cooling load, room layout, operating temperature and product requirements.
Positive-Temperature Cold Rooms
Evaporators for positive-temperature rooms support chilled storage above 0°C. Applications include fresh produce, dairy products, beverages and other goods requiring controlled refrigeration.
Coil selection and airflow should account for product sensitivity to drying, packaging and storage arrangement. Defrost requirements depend on coil operating temperature and moisture conditions, even when room air remains above freezing.
Negative-Temperature Freezer Rooms
Freezer evaporators serve frozen storage applications below 0°C. Fin spacing and defrost arrangements must suit expected frost formation, while drainage should allow defrost water to leave the unit without refreezing.
Storing already-frozen goods and freezing incoming products require different load assessments. Blast-freezing applications require equipment selection based on the product cooling load and required freezing time.
Air Distribution Throughout the Room
Fan airflow, air throw and evaporator positioning should suit room dimensions and shelving layout. Clear supply and return-air paths allow cooled air to circulate around stored goods.
The storage arrangement should leave sufficient clearance around the evaporator for airflow, cleaning and maintenance. Product stacking must also be considered when planning air distribution through the room.
Matching the Evaporator to the Refrigeration System
Cooling capacity must be assessed at the selected refrigerant evaporating temperature and room air conditions. Room volume alone does not determine the correct evaporator size.
In split Cold Room Refrigeration Systems, the evaporator must be matched to a compatible Cold Room Condensing Unit, expansion device and controls. Coordinating these components helps the system meet the calculated refrigeration demand.
